    The Supreme Great Night of Lord Shiva; cosmic Lingodbhava manifestation at midnight; four-prahar continuous Rudrabhishekam with Bilva leaves, sleepless vigil (Jagarana), and Nirjala fast.

    Observed on Magha Krishna Chaturdashi overlapping Nishitha Kala (8th muhurta of night, around midnight). Even if Chaturdashi covers only one ghati of Nishitha, that day is chosen over Trayodashi.

    The culmination of Pitru Paksha fortnight; supreme day for offering Tila Tarpana, Pinda Dana, and Shraddha to liberate all known and unknown departed ancestors.

    Observed on Bhadrapada/Ashvina Amavasya overlapping Aparahna Kala (afternoon period, Kutapa Muhurta).

  • मकरसंक्रान्तिः (उत्तरायण पुण्यकालः)

    Solar transition into Makara (Capricorn) marking the start of Uttarayana (the cosmic daytime of the Devas); boiling newly harvested rice and sesame-jaggery (Til-Gul).

    Observed on the day Sun enters Makara before sunset. If ingress occurs after sunset, the holy Punya Kala is observed on the following morning as mandated by Nirnaya Sindhu.
