A common beginner error is assuming a Muhurta is always exactly 48 clock minutes. In classical Drik Ganita, a Muhurta is strictly defined as 1/15th of the actual local daytime (D) or 1/15th of the nighttime (N). Thus, during summer solstices at non-equatorial latitudes, a daytime Muhurta can extend to 54 minutes while a winter daytime Muhurta shrinks to 42 minutes.
