Step-by-Step Āyādi Tuning for a Residential Home

Learn how to take raw architectural blueprints, translate imperial or metric dimensions into canonical Hasta cubits, and fine-tune building perimeters to satisfy the sacred inequality Āya > Vyaya.

आयाधिक्ये भवेद्वृद्धिः व्ययाधिक्ये दरिद्रता। तस्मात् सर्वप्रयत्नेन आयं कुर्याद् व्ययाधिकम्॥

āyādhikye bhaved vṛddhiḥ vyayādhikye daridratā | tasmāt sarvaprayatnena āyaṃ kuryād vyayādhikam ||

Translation:When Āya exceeds Vyaya, all growth and prosperity flourish. When Vyaya exceeds Āya, poverty and friction ensue. Therefore, with utmost diligence, one must ensure Āya strictly surpasses Vyaya.

1. The Architectural Blueprint

An architect drafts a modern two-storey villa with exterior foundation footprint:

Original Dimensions:
Width: 32.0 ft | Length: 48.0 ft

Perimeter = 2 × (32 + 48) = 160.0 ft

Conversion to Hasta (1 Hasta = 1.5 ft):
P_hasta = 160.0 / 1.5 = 106.67 Hastas

Notice: 106.67 is a fractional cubit!

Classical Vāstu requires the primary plinth carcass to be an exact whole integer in Hasta units. A fraction introduces dimensional dissonance. The architect must tune the building perimeter to an optimal integer.

2. Evaluating Candidate Hasta Dimensions

Let us compare candidate dimensions close to the architect’s original 160 ft target:

Candidate A: 106 Hastas (159 ft)REJECTED
  • Āya = (106 × 8) mod 12 = 848 mod 12 = 8
  • Vyaya = (106 × 9) mod 10 = 954 mod 10 = 4 (Āya > Vyaya ✓)
  • Yoni = (106 × 3) mod 8 = 318 mod 8 = 6 (Khara / Donkey ✗)

Even though Āya > Vyaya passes, Yoni 6 represents poverty and mental agitation. Inauspicious!

Candidate B: 117 Hastas (175.5 ft)APPROVED GOLDEN
  • Āya = (117 × 8) mod 12 = 936 mod 12 = 12 (Max Inflow ✓)
  • Vyaya = (117 × 9) mod 10 = 1053 mod 10 = 3 (Minimal Outflow ✓)
  • Yoni = (117 × 3) mod 8 = 351 mod 8 = 7 (Gaja / Elephant ✓)
  • Āyu = (117 × 27) mod 100 = 3159 mod 100 = 59 Years (Long life ✓)

Surpasses all shastric thresholds: Āya (12) massively exceeds Vyaya (3), paired with royal Elephant Yoni!

3. Applying the Architectural Adjustment

To achieve the Golden 117 Hasta (175.5 ft) perimeter without disturbing the room layout, the architect makes micro-adjustments to external setbacks:

Revised Architectural Blueprint:
  • Width: Adjusted from 32.0 ft to 35.25 ft (23.5 Hastas)
  • Length: Adjusted from 48.0 ft to 52.50 ft (35.0 Hastas)
  • Total Perimeter: 2 × (35.25 + 52.50) = 175.50 ft = 117 Hastas

By expanding the building plinth by just 3.25 ft in width and 4.5 ft in length, the entire residence transitions from a discordant fraction into a mathematically harmonized sanctuary.
